Why get so huffy? It was only a draft!

Note: This item refers specifically to my undergraduate class, where students earn a grade for a draft.

A: If a teacher is going to give you credit, it needs to be your own work. There are plenty of disagreements about the extent to which a draft should have complete citation mechanics, but the bare bones should be obvious. One student I had some time ago had large passages taken verbatim from the Internet and then claimed that what she had done was only for the draft. The problem? I give credit for drafts.
