Dear Michael and everyone else,

Reading these responses to Michael's original letter and how important this exchange has been for many or all of us makes me think about what can we do besides talk to one another. If everyone on this list were to write a "letter to the editor" of their local paper maybe this "constructive thinking" of our letterwriters could spread to others outside our circle.

The first thing I did, in response, was write a letter to the Honolulu Advertiser reflecting many of the ideas the rest of you expressed.
