Who will attend ACES?

Allen:

Thanks for taking a lead on this important aspect of the NIMC's strategic plan. Helping the current and future generation of counselor educators learn new and more effective ways to infuse the ACA multicultural and advocacy guidelines is very important in the long- term success of the multicultural-feminist-social justice movement in the fields of counseling and psychology. Thanks, again for the time and energy you are invested in coordinating this part of our collective plan.

I am not certain if I am going to attend this conference. I will be talking to Judy Daniels this weekend and try to have a definite answer for you at the beginning of next week.

If I do decide to attend I will submit a conference proposal ( I know it is due in December) that focuses on the history, promise, pitfalls and potential of the multicultural-advocacy competencies to promote transformational changes in the counseling profession in ways that bring a greater level of sanity to our society in general. I will be directing particular attention to counselor educators responsibility to deal with a host of contextual issues (e.g., racism, sexism, heterosexism, classism, able-ism, ageism, etc.) and how they can use the mc/advocacy competencies to do so.

I want to do whatever I can to complement the final plan you come up with so let me know what the final outcome of your plan is... Again, I will try to let you know my final decision regarding my intent to go or not go to the ACES Conference as soon as I find out myself.

Peace and thanks for all you help with this....

Michael
