General Information
The Interamerican Society of Psychology (SIP) was founded by a group of behavioral scientists in December 17 1951, in Mexico City. SIP is a member of the International Union of Psychological Sciences (IUPsyS), a division of the International Council of Scientific Unions. Through these groups, the SIP relates to international organizations such as UNESCO. The leadership of the SIP includes members of North, Central, and South America, and the Caribbean. The official languages of the SIP are Spanish, English, Portuguese and French
Activities
  • Since 1967 the SIP publishes The Interamerican Journal of Psychology: http://www.psicorip.org/.
  • The journal accepts manuscripts in all areas of psychology and in all the official languages of the SIP. Members of the society receive this publication. Members also have access to the society's electronic bulletin entitled Interamerican Psychology: SIP Newsletter.
  • Every two years, the society organizes the Interamerican Congress of Psychology, with the goal of promoting the scientific, academic, and professional exchange of information within psychology and other related disciplines. This activity is carried out in different countries of the American continent, in odd years. In even years, the SIP conducts the Regional Congress. The objective of the regional congresses is to promote regional developments and to facilitate the access and participation of those persons who cannot attend the interamerican congresses.
  • Two student research awards are granted every two years. These awards are given to the best psychological research conducted by an undergraduate and a graduate student. The goal of these awards is to stimulate psychology students' engagement in socially relevant research.
  • SIP maintains a central office which serves as the main source of information regarding research, publications, and opportunities for education and training in psychology in the Americas.
  • The SIP has a network of National Representatives from the different countries in the Americas. They serve as a liaison between their countries and the Central office.
  • The SIP sponsors work groups, from different areas within the psychology discipline, work together to exchange information and generate common projects.
