ABOUT THE TAMPA BAY AREA WRITING PROJECT

Who We Are:

The Tampa Bay Area Writing Project (TBAWP) is an affiliate of the Florida Writing Projects Network and the National Writing Project.  In partnership with the University of South Florida, TBAWP is made up of highly skilled Teacher Consultants who are expert classroom educators from all grade levels and disciplines.   Our site is committed to improving writing and learning in Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk and Sarasota Counties.  We are teachers teaching teachers.

What We Do:

We provide professional development opportunities for teachers to explore best practices in literacy and writing instruction. Outstanding area teachers at all grade levels engage in extensive writing experiences and reflect on their own writing in the 5 week institute.  These teachers are acknowledged for their own expertise in the teaching of writing, and become teacher leaders by conducting in-service presentations.  Graduates of the Invitational Summer Institute become members of an elite cadre of Teacher Consultants who become teacher leaders in their schools and districts.

TBAWP also brings professional development to schools and districts who desire to provide quality writing instruction that creates young authors who are passionate and empowered through writing.  We are not a one-shot seminar, instead we engage in long term effective development aimed at creating the best writing and learning environments that promotes student achievement.
