We've got
I.C.E. FEVER!

I.C.E. stands for Imaginative, Creative Explorers.  Writing Camp is an opportunity for students to hone their writing skills through creative strategies found in the best practices of writing.  Camp is a creative and stimulating environment where students improve their writing skills and enjoy collaborating with the diverse cultural, social, economic and educational backgrounds of other campers.  Students engage in grade appropriate writing groups of approximately six writers with a certified Teacher Consultant of the Tampa Bay Area Writing Project. Individual, small group and large group participation take place in a caring and safe environment. Students work from the beginning of the writing process with brainstorming and prewriting and end the summer as published authors in the annual anthology that is shared with family, friends, and teachers.

Participants made these comments about their experience:

  • “I love having the opportunity to express my thoughts through writing.  Just to have an excuse to write is great.”
  • “ It was fun!” “An awesome camp!”
  • “ I have learned tons and I am going to come back next year.”
  • “I would attend this camp again because it gives us a chance to let our minds go wild.”

Listen to student authors reading their own works on Podomatic.

Parents had this to say:

  • ”My older daughter has spent three summers at writing camp.  She loves it! She has learned new writing techniques every year in a creative and fun environment.  She loves the camaraderie of the group and the interaction with the facilitators.  My younger daughter spent her first summer this year and she too learned much and it encouraged her writing development.”
  • “I was impressed with the curriculum and so pleased that she learned so much in a fun environment.”
  • “It’s obviously a very nurturing environment as we had to cut short our vacation for her to come.  She wouldn’t miss it for anything.  ”
  • “I especially enjoyed hearing my daughter want to read to us about what she had written.  She was excited.  I also enjoyed reading a new voice come out of her writing.”
  • This camp has helped her with her confidence and improving her writing."
