COURSES

The SLA/IT program's curriculum consists of 74 total credit hours -- 44 credit hours of core courses with electives comprising 12 credit hours and a dissertation requiring 18 credit hours.

The following curriculum list is not intended to be exclusive of other courses that may be desirable to include in a student's program of study. Students will have the opportunity to add or replace some courses with other courses that address their professional goals, after consultation with their program advisor and approval from their doctoral committee. All students will be required to take two tools of research before taking the qualifying examination.

  • SLA 7776 Research Labs - a series of cohort-based courses that expose students to research projects in the field
  • SLA 7938 Advanced Seminar in SLA - 3 hours, offered on a 2-yr schedule -- PR or CI: Applied Linguistics, SLA @ Master's level
  • SLA 7939 Advanced Seminar in FLE - 3 hours, offered on a 2-yr schedule -- PR or CI: Current Trends in FLE @ Master's level
  • EDG 7931 Socio-Cultural Theory in SLA - 3 hours, offered on a 2-yr schedule
  • EME 6936 ACET:  Interactive Media - 3 hours
