Secondary Education
Research Programs and Services

Secondary Education Research Programs and Services at the University of South Florida provides research-based resources and services for schools and communities. Among the resources and services offered are staff development opportunities for educators, published resources on best practices, research for classroom application, and program and community assessments and improvement initiatives.

Beginning in 2001 as an Educational Business Activity of the Secondary Education Department at the University of South Florida, Secondary Education Research Programs and Services works cooperatively and collaboratively with existing state, regional, national, and international organizations in support of education and community improvement. It also continues the work originally done between 1985 and 2001 by the National Resource Center for Middle Grades Education, which was a non-profit, self-supporting Center and educational clearinghouse.

Secondary Education Research Programs and Sevices has been at the forefront of developing research-based instructional strategies and assessments of secondary schools, national distance learning programs, daycare and child care programs, community counseling services, and before- and after-school programs, and substance-abuse prevention programs for both schools and communities.

Staff development for middle schools throughout Florida and in the U.S. Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) overseas are also conducted.

The Coordinator, since 2000, is Greg Jordan, Ph.D.

Shelley Robertson serves in outcome-based community program evaluations, training, and program improvement.

The team for DoDDS inservice, support, and training are Sharen Lewis, Kathy LaMorte, Kathy Shewey, Gene Pickler, Jeff Dow, and Santo Pino.

The Office Manager for the Department is Judith Thomas, and for finances, Maricetas Avergonzado.
