XIV Annual Gathering for Sociocultural Theory and Second Language Learning Research Working group The University of Arizona -- Tucson, AZ October 25-27, 2007 We are pleased to announce that the XVIth Annual Gathering for Sociocultural Theory and Second Language Learning Research Working Group will be held at the University of Arizona in Tucson.
Presentations should be based on work in progress from the perspective of a sociocultural theory of mind in connection to the field of second language learning. Participants should expect to receive feedback. Up to 18 presentations by established scholars and graduate students are planned. There will be no parallel sessions. If you wish to present, please note that abstracts (300 words) are due by July 1st, 2007. Please, send the abstracts to aiddings@email.arizona.edu
All sessions will last 1 hour. There will be three types of sessions: Theoretical sessions: Presentations will be concerning unresolved challenges that connect SCT and SLA. About half of the sessions will be dedicated to the presentation and the next half to discussions. Data analysis sessions: Presenters should made data available to participants before hand. About half of the session will be dedicated to working on data and the next half to general discussion.
Praxis sessions: Presentations based on pedagogical applications (curriculum design and course development, pedagogy and methodology, teacher cognition, TELL, etc.) inspired by principles based on the Sociocultural Theory of Mind. About half of the sessions will be dedicated to the presentation and the next half to discussions.
