You can search the USF - Class Schedule to find out if the following Recommended USF Courses are being offered.  It may be helpful to write down the Prefix and Course Numbers (Ex. RED 4310) before you search the schedule of classes.

ELEMENTARY EDUCATION (Grades K-6)

NOTE:  This is a NEW coverage effective July 1, 2002.    Also EFFECTIVE July 1, 2002, mastery of Subject Area Knowledge (specialization requirements) can be met  EITHER  by passing the Subject Area Exam  OR  by meeting these course-by-course requirements; however, neither option guarantees employment.   Most districts in the USF service area require applicants for elementary positions to have FORMAL elementary training (an education degree) since elementary teachers are responsible for the children’s ENTIRE curriculum.  Check with your district before choosing either of these options!!

1.  Understanding the reading process and effective reading instruction,

3. Prescription and utilization of appropriate methods and materials to increase reading performance

1.   Content and methods for teaching writing and language arts in grades K-6.
