Workshop Description:
Unpacking the Adult Education Standards for GED/ABE Classes is an interactive workshop that represents a Florida State initiative. The training will equip participants with the knowledge and strategies necessary for successful implementation of the Adult Education Standards in their programs. Benefits of this workshop include enhanced student retention and persistence, greater learning gains with fewer instructional hours for students, and retention of adult education teachers.

Workshop Description:
Most teachers have not had the opportunity to obtain expertise in the area of reading. This reading workshop provides a basic overview of the different components of reading, as well as teaching strategies for each area. Hands-on activities are incorporated into this reading workshop on how to teach fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Techniques such as the various types of word lists, the GIST, and SQ3R are demonstrated. This workshop may be divided into any of the components of reading – phonemic awareness, word analysis and recognition, reading rate and fluency, spelling, background knowledge, word meaning and vocabulary, and comprehension skills - dependent on the needs of the participants.

Workshop Description:
TABE 101 is for all practitioners who will be administering the TABE test but have been in adult education for less than a year, or have never attended any TABE certification training. The TABE certification achieved through this training is required for all TABE proctors and will be valid for two years.
