General Information about the Research Study
The purpose of this research study is to determine the extent to which USF educators are aware of recent changes to Title 17 of the U.S. Copyright Code, how broad their training in using the fair use provisions of Title 17, and to determine whether USF is improving how well it trains educators to apply fair use to their online course materials.

Plan of Study
You will be asked to complete the short online survey shown on the next two web pages.
Additionally, you may be asked to participate in a 20-minute online focus group following the survey that is also part of this research study.

Payment for Participation
You will not be paid for your participation in this study.

Dear Colleague:

Ms. Phyllis Sweeney is conducting an IRB-approved study to address a very important concern affecting e-teaching, e-research, and e-service by faculty, specifically "fair use" of web-based course material. This survey is intended to measure faculty awareness of the issue so that appropriate information can be disseminated to faculty to insure that instruction and research is viable with respect to copyright and intellectual property concerns. Educational Outreach encourages faculty to complete and submit the questionnaire. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Sweeney or Dr. Jeffrey D. Komrey, her major professor.
