My name is Daniel Ariew and I was born in Roanoke, Virginia, and lived in Blacksburg, Virginia until I was fourteen. My parents are both educators and professors at the post-secondary level. I moved to Tampa, Florida right before I began high school, and attended at Freedom High School in Tampa for three years. During my time there, I was a member of Mu Alpha Theta, as well as other academic societies and clubs. At the end of my junior year, I took an opportunity to begin college early, and began to attend University of South Florida as an early admission student. I attended USF for 5 years as an undergraduate and member of the Honors College. I earned two separate Bachelors’ of Arts in Mathematics and Philosophy.
Throughout my entire academic career, math has always been my favorite subject. The feeling of solving a difficult problem is a wonderful feeling, and I am always searching for it. I found that getting a B.A in math was far more difficult than earning my philosophy degree, and I feel as though that it was a great triumph in my life. I hope to inspire students to yearn for that same “Eureka!” moment I receive when I solve a difficult math problem or proof.
