STAGES Spotlight on Jason

Hi folks my name is Jason. I started STAGES in June 2006. May 2008 will be my last month at STAGES.
What I like about STAGES is that I learned a lot and got a better education. I learned about computers, riding the city bus and I learned things about Medical students. I also learned topics such as “Families” in Dr. Cranston’s class. I did a presentation with the college students. I enjoyed doing that.
I have job trained at the Card Center, FMHI Mail Room, Recycling Physical Plant, Communication Sciences and Disorders and the USF Library. My favorite job was at the USF Library. I put books on the cart in ABC order. Then I did transports to all the floors and pick-ups.
USF Best Buddies is a great program to interact with people, participate in events and become more social able in your life. Barvan was my Best Buddy. We go to all the Best Buddies events together and then he takes me to my house. We contact each other by phone and email.
My advice for the new students coming to STAGES is for them to learn how to ride the city bus so they can travel alone and grow up.
When I leave STAGES I would like to get a job in Brandon and learn how to drive.

From the parents: “STAGES has been a very positive program for our son Jason. We have seen a tremendous change. He now has the ability and confidence to use public transportation on his own. STAGES has helped him with being independent and have self-confidence. Because of job training, Jason was able to experience different fields and positions that helped him with his self-esteem. As Jason’s parents, we are very grateful to STAGES. This program has definitely impacted his life and ours”.
