Scholarships

The following is a list of scholarships that are offered through the College of Education for degree seeking students:

Childhood Education Scholarships


The following scholarships are for USF College of Education, Elementary or Early Childhood majors on the Tampa Campus only. One application may be used to apply to all approrpriate scholarships.


LAURA ELLEN WEEKS ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

  • Must be a junior and have completed at least one semester at USF
  • Selection criteria includes: Test scores, GPA, activities, leadership, and recommendations
  • Tampa campus students only
  • Awarded in Semester I (amount varies)
  • Application (Adobe Reader Required for download)

VELMA PATE THOMAS SCHOLARSHIP

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Full-time, female student with a 3.0 GPA
  • Graduate or undergraduate (amount varies)
  • Application

SEARLS/PFOST SCHOLARSHIP

  • Must have a 3.0 GPA
  • Completed 12 semester hours in a degree program
  • The award equals full tuition for two semesters, providing that the student maintains a 3.0 GPA
  • Graduate or undergraduate
  • Application

CRAIG L. JOHNSON ENDOWED MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

  • Must have a 3.0 GPA
  • Full-time student and have completed 30 hours at USF
    (by fall semester)
  • Demonstrate long-term commitment to education
  • amount varies
  • Application

NOTE: For all Childhood Education Scholarships, attach the following documentation:

  • Two letters of recommendations from College of Education faculty members with whom you have completed course work. Each of your recommendations should attest to your academic ability. Students transferring from a community college or other university should present recommendations from faculty from those institutions.
  • One letter of recommendation from a person not related to you who has knowledge of your character, attitudes, and personality.
  • A 1-2 page, typed, double spaced personal statement which explains your interests in education, commitment to teaching, professional goals, experience with children or young people, and financial need. (Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need.)

Deadline: April 15 by 5 p.m.
(Scholarships are awarded once per year)

LAURIE ANN RICHARDSON ENDOWED MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

  • Special Education major
  • Applicants should be completing their senior year of undergraduate studies with plans to enter the Masters degree program in Special Education, or be actively employed as a teacher in the field of Special Education with plans to enter into the Masters degree program in Special Education
  • Selection criteria includes: Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA, show long-term commitment to a career in Special Education, letters of recommendation
  • Application deadline: March 1
  • Applications available from the Chairperson, Department of Special Education

  • One award per year
  • Up to $2000 annually


TRUST - Teaching and Reaching Urban Students Together

  • This scholarship is available to all racial/ethnic groups pursuing a degree in special education or communication sciences disorders with an interest in urban schools.
  • Scholarships are available at the undergraduate level.

METROPOLITAN LIFE ENDOWED MINORITY SCHOLARSHIP

  • Undergraduate education majors of diverse ethnic origins, any level
  • Must be admitted to the College of Education
  • Application contains all criteria and requirements
  • Must be a full-time student at USF, College of Education and committed to a degree in education
  • The candidate should show long-term commitment to a career in education.
  • Application deadline: April 30 for fall semester and November 30 for spring semester
  • Amount of award: varies according to need and qualifications

BOB ROBERTS TEXTBOOK GRANT

  • For undergraduate members of Lambda Tau chapter of Kappa Delta Pi
  • $100 award Semester I and II
  • Applications available from Childhood Education

ALPHA PSI CHAPTER OF DELTA KAPPA GAMMA SCHOLARSHIP

  • Tampa campus female
  • College of Education junior entering senior year
  • Must be fully admitted to College of Education
  • Minimum 3.2 overall GPA
  • $500 scholarship will be awarded in January, 2003 (subject to change)

KAPPA DELTA PI PRESIDENTS SCHOLARSHIPS

(Five Awarded Nationally)

  • Undergraduate Degree Seeking Students
  • Any active member of Kappa Delta Pi
  • Must be in good standing
  • Application contains all criteria and requirements
  • Application deadline will be around March 1
