HIS IMPERIAL HIGHNESS, PRINCE SELASSIE OF ETHIOPIA, DELIVERS A MESSAGE OF HOPE.  Prince Selassie, son of His Imperial Majesty Emperor Amha Selassie I, and grandson of His Imperial Highness Emperor Haile Selassie I, of Ethiopia, visited the COEDU’s Gus A. Stavros Center on Thursday, October 25. A diverse group of nearly 100 people packed into the Stravros Center to hear the Prince speak about “Building a Future of Prosperity for Africa Through Education and Economic Development.” Prince Selassie answered questions from the audience very candidly. He said, “Now with technology, that is our only hope…otherwise, we will not be able to compete in the global markets. It’s not where it should be, but it’s taken a life of its own, and I think it will continue.” He also recognized that, “Education is the single-most effective way to improve the lives of Africans.”

INTERNATIONALLY KNOWN SPEAKER AND AUTHOR STEVE BARKLEY ADDRESSED SCATT ON STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
Steve Barkley spoke to over 120 students and faculty on Friday, September 21st.  Mr. Barkley is the author of several well-known books and an internationally known speaker on a variety of topics regarding teaching and learning. His workshop explored the role of student effort in student achievement and the role that teachers play in motivating this effort. Mr. Barkley said,"SCATT models the model," for achieving success. His model is: Effort X Ability= Success!

Dr. Susan Homan hit a home run for the College of Education at the USF Health Sciences Research Work Group of the Board of Trustees. Dean Colleen S. Kennedy presented a brief review of research in the college. Provost Renu Khator highlighted College of Education research to the Board.
