Steven Thornton Receives Choice Award From the American Library Association
Dr. Steve Thornton, Chair of Secondary Education, has recently received the American Library Association’s Choice Award for "Teaching Social Studies that Matters." Choice: Current Reviews for Academic Libraries is the premier source for reviews of academic books, electronic media and Internet resources of interest to those in higher education. Each year the Choice awards are given to “the best of the best in published scholarship” to create the Choice List of Outstanding Academic Titles.
This selective list showcases the best in scholarly titles reviewed by Choice and gives the author extraordinary recognition within the academic library community. The list awards approximately ten percent of the 6,600 works reviewed in Choice each year. Editors base their selections on “the reviewer's evaluation of the work, the editor's knowledge of the field, and the reviewer's record.”
Since winning the American Library Association’s Choice Award for his book “Teaching Social Studies that Matters,” the USF Tampa Library has recognized this honor by developing a display about Thornton, his book(s,) and the award. The USF community is proud to have attracted a scholar of Thornton's caliber and that material of such high quality is being produced by a member of our organization.
