Grant Awards
Patty Linder & Marilyn Kline of the David C. Anchin Center have been awarded three grants totaling $200,000 from the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE). They will implement three Regional Training Councils to meet the needs of educators and administrators serving school districts, community colleges, volunteer literacy programs, community-based organizations, and correctional facilities in the fifteen counties of Region IV.
Sally Wade from Florida Diagnostic & Learning Resources System (FDLRS) recently secured a nearly $4 million grant to implement research-based parental involvement policies, programs and activities statewide and provide high quality, highly useful comprehensive training, information, and support services statewide to parents and educators.
Drs. Jeannie Kleinhammer-Tramill, Patty McHatton, and Jim Tramill, who worked in collaboration with Sarah Semon of the Regional Professional Development Partnership, received a 5-year $1.3 million grant to work in collaboration with Pasco County Schools in a “Transition to Teaching” initiative recruit and retain highly qualified mid-career professionals as teachers in high need schools.
Dr. Roy Winkelman secured a $672,000 grant in August from the FLDOE titled Math Standards for Florida’s Students. The project supports improved student performance and achievement of Florida’s Sunshine State Standards particularly in the areas of math and science, and the necessary reading skills to succeed in these subjects.
Dr. Michael Stewart in collaboration with Dr. Joyce Nutta from USF–St. Petersburg, received a $299,563 grant from the FLDOE to support their project SUCCEED Tampa Bay which will focus on addressing the Florida teacher shortage. In collaboration with the Hillsborough and Pinellas School districts the initiative will provide mid-career changers and recent graduates from non-teaching degree programs seeking teacher certification an opportunity and financial support to complete preliminary course work toward their MAT degree. The grant will also provide support services to include career coaching, one point advising/admission/ registration, individualized tutoring and test preparation, and job placement.
