Lillie Mae Sturkes Establishes Scholarship in Her Name
Lillie Mae Sturkes, an alum, grew up in rural Alabama. When she moved to Tampa and went to work for GTE, she took advantage of GTE's tuition reimbursement program and earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in our College. After retiring from GTE, she went to work as a kindergarten teacher at Robert E. Lee Elementary school.
After retiring from the Hillsborough County School District in 2004, she decided to do for others what GTE's program had done for her. Thanks to Lillie Mae, we will have many other fine teachers following in her footsteps.
