Luis Perez Is Named to the 2009 Class of Apple Distinguished Educators

Luiz Perez, a legally blind graduate student at the USF College of Education and an educator and creator of the popular Tech Ease podcasts at USF on iTunes U, was named a 2009 Apple Distinguished Educator (ADE).

According to Apple, "[The]...ADE program is a relationship program focused on educational excellence and leadership. [ADE's]...are members of a select group of K-12 and Higher Education Professionals.

Luis Perez, Distinguished Apple Educator

This select group of over 1,500 educators possesses an identified expertise in educational technology leadership and spans the globe with membership in the USA, Asia, Australia, Canada, Europe, Japan, Latin America, and New Zealand."

Tech Ease is a collection of tutorial movies on the latest technologies for educators, available for free on the USF on iTunes U website: itunes.usf.edu.  Current topics include podcasting, online photo sharing, social bookmarking, educational uses of the iPod, and Second Life. Each topic includes a series of brief one to-two-minute movies, also known as screencasts, guiding the viewer from beginning through more advanced tasks.

"I am so pleased with the high quality digital content Luis has produced for USF on iTunes U in connection with our Florida Center for Instructional Technology," said USF College of Education Dean Colleen S. Kennedy.  "This is a well-deserved honor, and I couldn't be more proud of him."

"I was thrilled and humbled when I found out about my selection as a member of the 2009 class of the ADE program," said Perez. "I am grateful for this opportunity to work with some of the best digital educators in the world...the digital content I create for Tech Ease and USF on iTunes U will be even better because of it. I also see [this] as a great opportunity to be a good role model for other students with disabilities by showing them that with hard work and the support of their families, friends, and colleagues, anything is possible and they really can accomplish any goal they set for themselves."
