USNews and World Report Ranks USF College of Education 45th in Nation

The University of South Florida College of Education is one of the nation's top 50 graduate schools of education.  That's according to the U.S.News and World Report rankings of the nation's best graduate schools, released today on the magazine's website.  The College of Education's ranking, at No. 45, included in the magazine's report on "America's Best Graduate Schools 2009," places USF's college among the top 17 % of graduate schools of education. USF's College of Education tied with four other colleges for the 45th ranking (FSU, University of Massachusetts-Amherst, University of Miami, and University of Missouri-Columbia, listed in alphabetical order). This is the fifth consecutive year that the college has been ranked. In 2008, the College of Education ranked 48th in the U.S.

The rankings were based on the following quality measures for the 2007 academic year: peer assessment scores, superintendent assessment scores, mean GRE scores of doctoral students, Ph.D. and Ed.D. acceptance rates, doctoral student/faculty ratios, Ph.D.s and Ed.D.'s granted per faculty, funded research dollars, average research expenditures per full-tiime tenured and tenure-track faculty member, and total graduate education enrollment.

Additionally, among the 50 top-rated programs, the College ranks 9th in generating external funding and 8th for the number of enrolled graduate students.

"It has been exciting to see the College rise in the national rankings from 60 a few years ago to 45 today! I am tremendously proud of the faculty and pleased that the high quality of our graduate programs is being recognized nationally," said College of Education Dean, Colleen Kennedy. "To be ranked among the top 10 colleges of education in obtaining state and federal grants is quite an accomplishment and attests to the impact the faculty make through their research and scholarship on improving education for children, families, and adults in Florida, throughout the nation, and globally."

The USF College of Education is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and is fully approved by the Florida Department of Education. We are the 7th largest public college of education in the nation. Visit us at USF on iTunes U (itunes.usf.edu) and on our website (www.coedu.usf.edu).
