DR. DEBRA OSBORN GIVEN THE NATIONAL CAREER DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION PRESIDENTIAL RECOGNITION AWARD. Debra Osborn, Assistant Professor in the College of Education’s Psychological& Social Foundations program, was recently awarded the "National Career Development Association Presidential Recognition Award." Osborn is the President of the Florida Career Development Association (FCDA) for 2004-2005. Her award is in recognition of “her significant contributions and personal dedication to the career development field in stepping up to lead FCDA and providing enormous support to the 2005 NCDA Global Conference." Osborn became president of FCDA last November; the organization had been without a president for two years prior to her installment. There are over 100 members of FCDA and her concentration now is on involving other members in leadership positions within the organization and increasing membership.

DR. TONY ERBEN HONORED BY THE FLORIDA CENTER FOR SURVIVORS OF TORTURE (FCST) AND REFUGEE SERVICES
Dr. Erben, Assistant Professor of Foreign Language Education, was honored for his work in providing educational forums and recruiting College of Education students for internships and volunteer work at FCST. Erben was honored as part of a ceremony celebrating June 23, 2005 as the United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture at the USF-St. Petersburg campus. Dr. Colleen S. Kennedy, Dean of the College of Education, attended the event along with other USF representatives including President Judy Genshaft, who gave the keynote address.

DR. SHANNON SULDO RECEIVES "ARTICLE OF THE YEAR" AWARD FROM SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGY REVIEW. Dr. Suldo, Assistant Professor in School Psychology, is one of the co-authors of the School Psychology Review 2004 "Article of the Year." The article entitled "Examining the Incremental Benefits of Administering Maze and Three Versus One Curriculum-Based Measurement Reading Probes When Conducting Universal Screening" was published in Volume 33. A copy of the article along with an announcement of the award has been posted on the School Psychology bulletin board (the bulletin board on the wall, not the virtual bulletin board).
DR. MICHAEL BERSON NAMED TO THE BOARD OF ADVISORS FOR MUZZY LANE SOFTWARE, INC. Dr. Berson is Associate Professor of Social Science Education in the Secondary Education Department. Muzzy Lane is the leading provider of educational simulations, covering a broad range of subjects and disciplines. Designed for education, their simulations are unique in their approach to transparency, customization and feedback.
Dr. Berson is also series general editor of Harcourt Horizons and Harcourt Horizontes, the award-winning grades K-6 social studies series from Harcourt School Publishers. Dr. Berson recently presented a copy of the text Harcourt Horizons Florida to Carol Graham Beck, the Curator of the Florida Governor's Mansion. The book will be placed on display in the mansion.

MAGGIE LEE WILSON RECEIVES KING O'NEAL SCHOLAR AWARD. Maggie Lee Wilson, a Spring '05 graduate in English Education, was one of three recipients of the King O'Neal Scholar Award presented each semester by the Alumni Association to graduating seniors with the highest cumulative GPA.
NATALIA JAMES GRADUATES WITH DISTINCTION. Natalia James has distinguished herself in academics with an overall GPA of 3.9 and an outstanding record in the areas of scholarship and research, professional development, and service. She is the College's spring 2005 recipient for "Graduation with Distinction."

THREE INDIVIDUALS FROM THE COLLEGE RECOGNIZED FOR THEIR WORK WITH STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES. In April 2004 the Office of Student Disability Services honored fifteen USF faculty and staff members. Three of them were from our College -- two faculty members and one staff member. Scott Seifreit, Technology Services and Resources, received an award for his work with students with disabilities.

DR. COLLEEN KENNEDY RECEIVES 2004 USF HISPANIC HERITAGE LEADERSHIP AWARD. The USF Latinos Association honored Dr. Colleen Kennedy with the 2004 USF Hispanic Heritage Leadership Award. The award was presented during the USF Hispanic Heritage National Month Kickoff Celebration in October 2004 at Traditions Hall in the Alumni Center. Dr. Louis Martin-Vega, Dean of the College of Engineering, also received the same award.

Assistant Professor of Foreign Language Education in the Secondary Education Department, was the recipient of the 2004 national award from ACTFL (American Council for the Teaching of Foreign Languages) that recognized his work in designing technological tools for use by foreign language and ESOL teachers, such as the nationally acclaimed SEEDS website. CAROL DINSDALE RECEIVES THE 2004 CLARISSA HUG TEACHER OF YEAR AWARD. Carol Dinsdale, who completed her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Special Education in 1994, is the recipient of the Clarissa Hug Teacher of the Year Award for 2004. This is a national prestigious award presented by the Council for Exceptional Children.
GRADUATE STUDENT IN SCIENCE EDUCATION RECEIVES EDDIE GRIFFIN MEMORIAL AWARD. Anna Lewis, a doctoral student in Science Education, was recently honored at the Southeastern Association for the Education of Teachers in Science for the Outstanding Position Paper submitted by a graduate student.
COEDU GRADUATES RECEIVE AWARDS FOR OUTSTANDING ECONOMIC EDUCATION TEACHING. The Gus A. Stavros Center for Free Enterprise & Economic Education is pleased to announce that two Hillsborough County educators received local and national recognition for their outstanding economic education instructional programs. Ms. Marianna Cannizzaro, teacher at Lopez Elementary School, received the Bright House Network Star Teacher Award. Mr. John Miliziano of Alonso High School was selected as the southeast finalist in the Nasdaq Economic Excellence Awards program. Mr. Miliziano is one of five regional finalists in the national competition. Ms. Cannizzaro and Mr. Miliziano are involved in the center's economic education program and entered the awards competition under the mentorship of the center.
