Advanced Graduate Handbook

Admission (Ed.D)

The purpose of the degree of Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) is to improve professional practice.  This degree is designed to develop the competencies of educational practitioners in obtaining and synthesizing knowledge for the solution of educational problems and practices.

University and College of Education Requirements

The applicant for admission to Ed.D. study must present satisfactory evidence of:

1.

an undergraduate Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0 in work completed while an upper division student in the baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution

  OR
  a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.5 for work completed at the Master's level.
  AND
2.

*a minimum score on the GRE (quantitative, verbal, and analytical) as described in the Programs section of the USF Graduate Catalog. [Note: The GRE must have been taken no more than 5 years prior to the date of application for graduate admission]

  AND
3. an earned Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education;
  AND
4. three letters of recommendation submitted to the program coordinator;
  AND
5. favorable recommendations from program faculty
  AND
6. certification and/or experience in the area of study in which the applicant is seeking the Ed.D. degree, if appropriate.

* Consult the Program Coordinator in your concentration area to determine the specific tests needed and scores required.

In addition to University and College requirements, the applicant must comply with individual program requirements for admission.  All applicants should consult with the program that they intend to enter for special evaluations and/or additions to the above requirements.
