We Are
Mission Statement
What We Are
Technology Services
and Resources (TSR) is a service-oriented office that provides
support for the technological endeavors of the faculty and staff
of the College of Education. TSR is charged with infusing
technology into the everyday administrative and instructional
needs of the college.
TSR was established in August of 1990 to meet an ever increasing
need to support the computing activities of the faculty and
staff. Support had been previously provided by a centralized
campus-wide support workstation that was part of the Central
Computing organization. Under campus-wide support, College
of Education computer users typically experienced 2 to 3 week
response times before problems were investigated and resolved.
TSR has a typical response time of 1 day or less.
As a support unit for the College of Education exclusively,
TSR is intimately familiar with the specific needs of the College's
faculty and staff. Many colleges on campus have followed
the example of the College of Education and have instituted
support staffs of their own like TSR. Since 1990 TSR has
helped guide the College toward becoming a leader in computing
on campus and a leader in instructional technology nationwide.
What We Do
As the names implies,
TSR supports many different aspects of technology within the
College of Education. Services encompass everything from
workstation support to network administration to digital video
editing to research into new instructional technologies.
- Workstation Configuration, Setup and Repair
- TSR configures, orders, rebuilds, and repairs all computer
stations for all staff and faculty in the college, including
the funded centers.
- Software Research and Acquisition - TSR
researches, acquires, installs, and updates software licenses
for faculty and staff.
- Hardware Inventory - TSR maintains an inventory
of all computers owned by the college. When property
is no longer used in one unit, SR identifies a needy agency
within the college or within partner schools, or properties
the equipment out.
- Faculty Technical Needs Inventory - TSR
inventories faculty needs and keeps an up-to-date list of
requests for hardware and software. TSR prepares bid
specifications and attempts to purchase both software and
hardware in cost-efficient quantities.
- Workshop Implementation - TSR prepares
and implements professional workshops for faculty and staff.
- Network Administration - TSR has designed,
built, installed, and currently administers a computer network
with 450 computers connected to 11 servers in 5 buildings.
- Instructional Support - TSR supports many
types of instructional development. It maintains the
five teaching labs and the open access lab. TSR assists
staff in developing videos, delivering multimedia presentations,
creating and delivering professional presentations, and building
utilities such as computer bulletin boards.
- Facilities Planning - TSR functions as
the driving element for facility planning with respect to
technology. TSR has made important contributions to
the architectural plans of the Education II building and renovations
in the Education I building and the David C. Anchin Center.
- Research - TSR conducts ongoing research
into new technologies for possible use in instruction.
