The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at the University of South Florida is seeking a professor and chair for appointment to a 12-month tenure track position effective August 7, 2010.
The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies invites nominations and applications for the position of Chair/Professor of the Department. The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies (ELPS) currently supports Ed.D., Ed.S., and M.Ed. graduate degrees. The Department has 7 full-time faculty members, with additional instructional and support personnel to support a broad teaching, research, and service mission. Responsibilities
Major responsibilities include: The Chair will have responsibilities for leading, organizing, and maintaining the personnel and other resources in the department to meet departmental goals. These goals include the delivery of instruction in curriculum at the Master’s, Specialist, and Doctoral levels. The Chair reports to the Dean of the College of Education. The Chair will provide leadership and support for teaching, research, publishing, professional activities, and external funding that promotes the development of new knowledge and innovative practices; represent the Department at regular meetings and other planning sessions with college or university-wide implications; and engage in professional organizations at the state, regional and national levels. Close alliance with service area school districts that are some of the largest in the nation is an important responsibility. Other departmental duties of the Chair include (1) facilitating progress toward the college’s strategic directions, including enhancing the commitment to diversity; (2) planning cycles of courses to deliver degree programs, (3) managing budgets; (4) supervising standing committees that include tenure and promotion, annual review, adjunct credentialing, and graduate credentialing committees; (5) overseeing admission to and completion requirements for all degree programs; (6) maintaining program approval and accreditation standards as required by the state of Florida and accreditation by SACS and NCATE standards; (7) providing leadership for the Department’s fund raising activities.
Qualifications
Required:
- An earned doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution with specialization in educational leadership or a closely related discipline
- Teaching experience at the university level, including graduate programs
- A record of scholarly productivity, including publications in refereed journals
- Active participation in professional organizations
- Experience with K-12 public schools in instructional and/or administrative settings
- Successful experience with program development and program accreditation approvals
- A strong University record of publishing, teaching, research, scholarly work, and other professional accomplishments commensurate with appointment as a full professor with tenure according to USF’s standards (http://files.acad.usf.edu/facprogdev/5464.pdf).
Preferred:
- Successful experience as a department chair or in a significant administrative role in a university setting
- Leadership experience that includes the application of skills in consensus building and conflict resolution
- Demonstrated leadership in and commitment to working with diverse populations and related initiatives
- Administrative and/or instructional experience in public K-12 schools
- Demonstrated capacity for individual team, unit building, collaborative leadership and the mentoring of new scholars
- Experience as an active leader in national level professional organizations
- Strong interpersonal relationships and effective communication skills
- Current knowledge in the utilization of technology for communicating, providing instruction, office management, and other related activities
- Successful experience with departmental budgets, grants and/or other sources of external funding
Salary: Negotiable, competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience (12-month position).
