The Department of Secondary Education at the University of South Florida is seeking an assistant/associate professor as a scholar/educator in second language education for appointment to a tenure track position effective August 7, 2010.
The Second Language Acquisition and Instructional Technology (SLA/IT) Ph.D. program is a unique interdisciplinary degree offered through both the College of Education and the College of Arts and Sciences. Regarded as a model with respect to its innovative design, curriculum, and delivery, SLA/IT offers its graduates mentoring, expertise, and opportunity to enter the fields of SLA, instructional technology, teacher education, applied linguistics, and foreign language teaching. Responsibilities
Teach graduate level courses in the field of second language acquisition (SLA), ESOL and /or foreign language education ;conduct research in the field; engage in the professional affairs of organizations appropriate to the field; advise students; network with schools and districts; participate in program management, and governance in the department, college, and university. A courtesy appointment in the World Languages Department may also be possible.
Qualifications
Required:
- Earned doctorate in second language education, foreign language education, or closely related field;
- university record commensurate with appointment at the Assistant/Associate level according to USF’s standards (http://files.acad.usf.edu/facprogdev/5464.pdf);
- established record of research activity which indicates systematic inquiry and scholarship related to language education;
- experience teaching in the area of second language/foreign language studies;
- excellent communication skills in English;
- demonstrated expertise with contemporary instructional technologies
- Success in college-level teaching.
- Proficiency in at least one foreign language
Preferred:
- Experience in attracting external funding;
- Service on doctoral dissertation committees;
- Experience with distance learning;
- Interest in interdisciplinary teaching innovations with other subject areas;
- Evidence of collaborative abilities;
- Involvement in the affairs of appropriate professional organizations;
- Community involvement and successful teaching experience in K-12 settings;
- Experience in teaching Applied Linguistics
Salary: Salary competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
