Assistant/Associate Professor, Elementary Physical Education

The School of Physical Education & Exercise Science at the University of South Florida is seeking a scholar/educator in elementary physical education for appointment to a 9-month tenure track position effective August 7, 2010.
The School of Physical Education and Exercise Science offers undergraduate degrees in Physical Education Teacher Preparation and Exercise Science as well as Master’s degrees in Physical Education Teacher Preparation and Exercise Science. The College of Education also encourages interdisciplinary doctoral degree programs with our School’s students. Currently, there are seven full-time faculty members. Responsibilities
We seek a (potential) scholar engaged in cutting edge research to join our Physical Education faculty. Major responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in middle and high school physical education teacher education, graduate physical education courses, and a course in principles of coaching for physical education majors, supervising interns, serving on committees, interacting with school personnel, and conducting scholarly activities.
Qualifications
Required:
- Doctoral degree in Physical Education or related field with a specialization in Teacher Education (ABDs accepted but all degree requirements must be met by August 7, 2010)
- If applying at the Associate Professor level, University record of teaching, research and scholarly work commensurate with appointment at the Associate Professor level according to USF’s standards (http://files.acad.usf.edu/facprogdev/5464.pdf)
- Evidence of research/scholarly activity or productivity (Associate Professor level)
Preferred:
- At least 3 years of certified K-12 teaching experience
- Preparation in and/or experience teaching elementary physical education instructional design and content courses
- Experience in grant writing and obtaining external funding
- Preparation in and/or experience teaching adapted physical education
- Preparation in and/or experience teaching non-major elementary physical education classes
- Preparation in and/or experience as a university supervisor of students in school-based settings
- Preparation in and/or experience designing motor development experiences for early childhood students
- Evidence of ability to use technology as it applies to K-5 Physical Education
- Experience designing and teaching distance-learning courses
- Experience teaching at the university level
- A record of professional and public service
- Knowledge of diversity and urban education issues
Salary: Negotiable, competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
