Instructor, Elementary Education

Department of Childhood Education and Literacy Studies

Effective August 7, 2010

 

The Department of Childhood Education and Literacy Studies has 20 full-time faculty members and offers degree programs at the undergraduate, MA, Ed.S, and Ph.D. levels. Opportunities are available for collaborative research and/or mentoring with the College’s faculty as well as other research centers in the college and university. Department programs prepare undergraduate and graduate students to work with diverse students in metropolitan areas. Position:

Instructor, College of Education, Department of Childhood Education and Literacy Studies; 9-month, non-tenure track, effective August 7, 2010. 

The successful candidate will be expected to teach effectively at the undergraduate level, mentor and supervise preservice teachers in K-6 classroom settings, and participate actively in service to the profession, the university, and communities.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • An advanced degree from a regionally accredited university in elementary education

  • A minimum of three years of K-6 teaching experience

  • Experience mentoring preservice or new teachers

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  •  An earned doctorate from a regionally accredited university in elementary education by the time of appointment August 7, 2010
  • Experience in field-based teacher development offered by a College/University

  • Experience working in diverse settings, including metropolitan areas, and with students from diverse cultures

  • Documented evidence of successful teaching at College/University level

  • Documentation of ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment

  • Understanding of research-based pedagogy

  • Evidence of ability to support department service activities

  • Expertise and experience in preparing educators to integrate technology into their teaching


Salary:

Negotiable, competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
