For LIFE Fest 2006 - A Celebration of Learning

Our program is for families and educators.

Workshops currently include (with more to come!):

• Geocaching in Education, with an optional hike using a GPS
• Learning through Language Immersion, with the Language Playhouse
• Hands on science, with Hands on Planet Earth
• Teaching Space Science Using the Internet, with PixLit Productions

Presentations and book signings by:

• Alan Kay, author of the Young Heroes of History series
• Debbie Cohen, author of Reach Your Stars
• Learning about Florida's online public school, with Florida Virtual School
• The ins and outs of Independent Education in Florida, by Florida Dept. of Education

• Rose Sabin, author of A School for Sorcery will sign books

And we'll be screening two great documentary films:

• Voices from the New American Schoolhouse, a look at the Sudbury Democratic School model
• Going to School, Ir a la escuela, an exploration of inclusion, diversity and empowering children with disabilities

Plus there will be ongoing children's activities and environmentally themed programs, courtesy Brooker Creek Preserve; an enormous variety of free instructive and educational materials at our Information Buffet; information booths from a variety of community and support groups; free books at our annual LIFE Fest Book Swap and more -- including great door prizes and raffle (for two passes to Busch Gardens - $124 value!).

Space is limited, so preregistration is required this year. Admission is $3 donation per person, or $10 per family. RSVP by April 30th to pubmail@tampabay.rr.com with the number in your party, and you'll be automatically entered for one of our many doorprizes (must be present to win!). See you in May!

The Florida Aquarium features over 10,000 aquatic plants and animals. Visitors can enjoy the shark tank, Explore A Shore exhibit, and the daily Eco-Tours aboard the 64 foot catamaran. Admission prices are $17.95 for adults, $14.95 for seniors, $12.95 for children age 3 to 12, and free for children 2 and under. Tickets for the Eco-Tours are $19.95 for adults, $18.95 for seniors, $14.95 for children age 3 to 12, and free for children 2 and under.

Summer Programs
Summer programs are offered for children age 3 to 15. Children who have completed kindergarten to 5th grade can attend on location day programs which range from $115 to $208. The Florida Aquarium offered travel day programs for students who have completed 4th to 8th grade for $230 to $670. In addition, students age 12 to 15 can participate in a scuba program where they will earn their diving certificate. Prices range from $660 to $825. The Florida Holocaust Museum contain exhibits on and in remembrance of the Holocaust. It features the History, Heritage and Hope exhibit along with various traveling exhibits. Admissions prices are $8 for adults, $7 for seniors and college students with ID, $4 for students under 18, and free for members and children 6 and under. There are also free audio tours available.

Great Explorations: The Children’s Museum

Great Explorations offers over 30 exhibits that are all hands-on. Visitors are encouraged to explore and touch all exhibits including Fish Bites, Computer Animation, Tennis Ball Launch, and the Climb Wall. During the year Great Explorations offers special classes and Overnight EDventures. General admission prices are free for all members and children 11 months and younger, $8 for seniors, and $9 for everyone else.

Summer Programs
Great Explorations offers summer camps for students age 5 to 15. There are five different types of camps offered: Action Camp, Camp Solve It, Camp Create, Cool Camp, and Teen Time. Prices range from $150 to $175. For more information please visit

The Hillsborough River State Park is a 3,950 acre park. It has canoeing, rafting trips, and Fort Foster Tours as well as various other outdoor activities.

Lowery Park Zoo has more than 1,600 animals and the Florida Environmental Education Center (Zoo School). Throughout the year, the zoo offers several programs for students interested in animals, zoology, and ecology. Summer Programs
In addition to the programs offered all year, Lowery Park Zoo has a summer camp for students who have completed kindergarten to 8th grade. Camps cover various topics including various animals, zoo director, and environmental issues. Prices range from $145 to $165. MOSI offers several activities for students both during the school year and during breaks. There are special exhibits as well as hands-on activities and MOSIMAX, MOSI’s Imax theater. Admission prices are $8 for adults, $7 for students and seniors, $5 for children (under 2 free). MOSIMAX prices are $6 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, $4 for children 2-12 years old. Special exhibits may cost extra.

Summer Programs
MOSI offers a wide range of summer camps for various age groups and interests.. Most camps are one week long and range in topics from space to animals to crime scene investigation. Below is approximate information regarding summer camps at MOSI.

Mote Marine Science Aquarium has several aquariums, mammal and turtle exhibits and Immersion Cinema. Admission prices are $15 for adults and $10 for children aged 4 – 10. Children under 3 years old and Mote members are free.

Summer Programs
Mote Marine Aquarium offers summer programs for students from 1st grade to 10th grade. Programs focus on marine life. Students in 7th – 10th grades may participate in programs in the Florida Keys. Students must write a paragraph about why they would like to participate and have a letter of recommendation. Prices range from $725 - $875 depending on the program. Ninth and tenth graders with a dive certificate can participate in a diving program. Mote Marine Aquarium also offers high school internships. The Ringling Museum sits on 31 acres in Sarasota. It includes the Museum of Art, Cà d’Zan Mansion, and Circus Museum. The Museum of Art includes over 10,000 paintings, sculptures, and various decorative arts. The Cà d’Zan Mansion sits on the Sarasota Bay and has 32 rooms and 15 baths. The Circus Museum contains various circus memorabilia including costumes and scale models. On Sundays the museum has Handz-On Family programs such as Create a Garden, Paper Marbling, and Etiquette. The Salvador Dali Museum has several galleries which hold the work of Salvador Dali and traveling exhibits. Admission prices are $14 for adults, $12 for seniors, military, and police officers, $9 for students age 10+ (18+ with ID), $3.50 for students 5 to 9, and free for children 4 and under. Thurdays are $5. Free guided tours are available and last about one hour.

Sarasota Jungle Gardens is on 10 acres of land and includes various animal exhibits as well as bird and reptile shows daily. General admission is $12 for adults, $11 for seniors, $8 for children 3 to 12, and free for children under 3. They host a Junior Zookeeper Club for children age 3 to 10. The Tampa Museum of Art offers special exhibits, twentieth century and contemporary art exhibits, and Greek and Roman antiquities exhibits. Admission prices are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and military with ID, $3 for students with ID and children six and older, and free for children under 6 and Museum members.

Summer Programs
The Tampa Museum of Art offers summer programs for students age 6 to 10. Students will learn about various art styles and movements and participate in hands-on activities.
