Master's International Program with the Peace Corps

Admissions Requirements

  1. An earned baccalaureate degree in Special Education or its equivalent from a regionally accredited college or university.
  2. Evidence of ability to perform successfully in the academic program, as indicated by one of the following:
    • An earned graduate degree from a regionally accredited college or university, or
    • An undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher in all work attempted while registered as an upper division student working for a baccalaureate degree, or
    • A combined GRE score on the Verbal and Quantitative Subtests of 1000 or higher, or
    • Completion of 9 hours of specified graduate course work in special education with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and the endorsement of a Special Education faculty member.
  3. Evidence of passing scores on all portions of the CLAST subtest.
  4. A letter of application that addresses why the candidate desires to pursue a masters degree in special education.
  5. At least two (2) letters of recommendation, one from a person who has seen the candidate teach and/or work with children and youth and the other from an administrator or supervisor.
  6. In addition to the above criteria the student must have a cumulative GPA in the baccalaureate degree of at least a 2.5.

To join the Peace Corps, applicants must be U.S. citizens, at least 18 years old, and in good physical health. Call or write for additional information regarding eligibility criteria and the excellent benefits package (including field practicum tuition waiver, language and cultural training, living/ housing expenses in the field, medical/dental coverage, deferment of student-loan repayment, transportation expenses to and from one's assigned country, vacation time and allowances, financial readjustment allowance, and employment assistance post-service). Master's International students should be willing to serve at any location assigned by the Peace Corps.
