Project LASER

Mission Statement

  • Enhance capacity of faculty and graduate students in minority institutions to engage in urban special education research
  • Develop and document a strengths-based model for supporting minority faculty and graduate students
  • Coordinate a national urban special education research agenda

Values Statement

LASER will provide professional development that capitalizes on participants' strengths and involves them in all project phases. Services will be rendered in a manner that honors and affirms individual and institutional differences.

The LASER project will serve:

  • Faculty and graduate students in minority institutions (in special education and related services departments)
  • Minority students wanting to pursue doctorates in urban special education
  • Urban school personnel
  • Urban children and youth

LASER Collaborative Research Communitities are comprised of faculty and graduate students in:

  • Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs)
  • Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs)
  • Native American Serving Institutions (NASIs)
  • Other Minority Institutions (OMIs)
