Dr.
Churton is the Director of Distance Learning International Development
and Research in USF Educational Outreach. He is also a tenured
professor and on the doctoral faculty in the department of Special
Education. His background consists of over 25 years in higher
education in the area of Special Education. He has served as
graduate coordinator at Appalachian State University and as
department chairperson of Special Education. He formerly directed
the Greater Tampa Bay Special Education Consortium and was instrumental
in establishing a distance-learning program among the partnership
schools. He developed a comprehensive distance-learning faculty
and course support unit at USF and now leads the distance learning
efforts for International Development and Research.
His publications include a textbook on methods in special education
and numerous articles on special education and distance learning.
He is a former Peace Corps volunteer and was awarded a Fulbright
Scholarship in Borneo from May-December 2000 researching disabilities
among indigenous tribes.
