Dr. Allsopp is an Associate Professor in the Department of Special Education, and serves as Undergraduate Coordinator for the Department. He received his B.A. in Psychology from Furman University and his M.Ed. & Ph. D. from the University of Florida. Before coming to USF, he was a member of the faculty at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA.

At USF, Dr. Allsopp teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in addition to his duties as Undergraduate Coordinator. His writing and research interests focus on instructional methods for students with learning and behavioral problems. In particular, his interests involve effective mathematics instruction for students with learning problems, effective social skills instruction for students with learning and behavioral problems, and effective academic interventions for postsecondary students with learning disabilities & ADHD.

Dr. Allsopp has co-developed two technology related instructional resources: MathVIDS-Mathematics Video Instructional Development Source -- an interactive, multimedia Website/CD that models effective mathematics instruction for students with learning problems, and The Learning Toolbox -- an interactive instructional website for those who teach secondary and post-secondary level students with learning disabilities and ADHD. Currently he is working collaboratively with collegues at the University of Central Florida and University of Florida to develop an online video library of evidenced-based instructional practices for students with exceptionalities in mathematics, science and reading. The Learning Stream Project is investigating how digital video can be best developed to illustrate effective instructional practices and the extent to which video enhances teacher preparation. Examples of Learning Stream videos can be found at the bottom of the page.

Additionally, Dr. Allsopp values the importance of school-university partnerships and investigating how these partnerships can enhance the preparation of Special Education teachers. Previous to teaching in higher education, he was a middle school teacher in Ocala, FL, teaching students with learning disabilities and emotional difficulties. He and his wife, Margaret, are native Floridians and enjoy living in the Tampa area and are grateful to live in the beautiful state of Florida!
