Al Duchnowski has a doctorate in clinical child psychology from Vanderbilt University with a minor concentration in special education from Peabody College. He has a joint appointment as Professor in the Departments of Special Education and Child and Family Studies. He has been with the Research and Training Center for Children's Mental Health, at the Florida Mental Health Institute, since 1985 and currently serves as a Deputy Director. Previously he was Director of Special Education for a school district in Pennsylvania. He has numerous publications in professional journals and has co-edited five books on children's mental health and special education. He has been Principal Investigator on several federal grants investigating issues related to children who have emotional disabilities and their families, school reform, and evidence-based interventions. He is one of the founders of the Federation of Families for Children's Mental Health.
