WebQuest Title: The Holocaust: A Webquest
Author: Donna Thomas
Student's Assignment
Introduction

The Holocaust was the systematic, bureaucratic, state-sponsored persecution and murder of approximately six million Jews by the Nazi regime and its collaborators. "Holocaust" is a word of Greek origin meaning "sacrifice by fire." The Nazis, who came to power in Germany in January 1933, believed that Germans were "racially superior" and that the Jews, deemed "inferior," were "life unworthy of life."
Children were especially vulnerable victims of the Nazis. It is estimated that over one million children were murdered under Nazi rule in Germany and occupied Europe. Jewish children were among the first victims when the Germans and their collaborators sought to destroy a Jewish community by shooting the inhabitants or deporting them to an extermination camp.
