Title: Children and The Holocaust

Dear Colleague:
The unit will add to the students understanding of the Holocaust during World War II. The unit will concentrate on life in a concentration camp, the role of children, and the global impact of this terrible event. The unit will be taught through lecture, a power point presentation, and a webquest. The students will have access to many different types of resources.

Unit Summary:
Goals/Objectives:
1. Students will understand the social impact of the Holocaust on the world.
2. Students will understand the complexity of the Holocaust from the perspective of the perpetrators
and the victims.
3. Students will develop an understanding of the ramifications of prejudice, racism, and stereotyping
in any society.

Content:
The focus of the unit will be on the importance of the Holocaust and how it could happen.
Methods:
This unit will be taught using lecture and a power point presentation, group discussions and tasks, and a webquest.

Summary:
Goals/Objectives:
1. Students will understand the reasons for the Holocaust and the reactions of the world.
2. Students will learn what is was like to be Jewish during this period of History.

2 Days (60 minutes)
Content:
Students will use knowledge gained through the lesson and resources provided to complete the webquest.
Methods:
Students will utilize internet research and readings to come develop a clear personal look at the Holocaust

After the lesson on the Holocaust students will understand the historical importance of this event. They will be able to describe the key events of the holocaust and be able to describe life in a concentration camp. Students will be able to empathize with groups of people who are persecuted by society. This lesson should serve to teach the students how to be global thinkers.
