WebQuest Title: Famous Battles of World War II

Dear Colleague:
This unit is designed to introduce students to World War II. The parts of the war that are covered in this unit are the start of World War II and Hitler, the war in Europe and what brought the U.S. to be involved and how the war ended. The first lesson is an introduction to Hitler and his growing power. This involves the use of an interactive lecture using PowerPoint and a cooperative learning project. The second lesson is on the war in Europe. This involves the use of an interactive lecture using PowerPoint and multi-media video. The third lesson is on the U.S. involvement and the end of the war. This involves the use of an interactive lecture using powerpoint and a group discussion. Then, students will work on a webquest on famous battles of World War II. The unit will conclude with student presentations of their webquest project.

learning projects, multi-media, group discussion and a webquest.

Students will use the internet to research some of the famous battles of World War II.

Content:
Students will explore several websites such as http://www.guadalcanal.com.sb/ and http://www.dday.org/start.html to learn about the battles. At these sites, students will learn how each battle developed as well as important facts.
Methods:
The webquest methods will be done with technology and visual aids. On the webquest, there will be several links for research. There will be different links on each of the different battle. The webquest also contains pictures from the battles.

Cooperative Learning Project (3-4) students To help students understand the connection between events at the beginning of the war, students will create a timeline of major events from 1939 to 1941. They are to arrange the events in sequential order. What they don't finish they will take home and finish using notes and their book.

This movie will introduce students to the Bismark, the huge ship which was hurting the British war effort. Students will take notes to further their knowledge. Only a portion of the movie will be shown due to time constraints. Students will take notes on the movie to turn in for homework the next day to show they were paying attention. In the lesson, students will learn about how the war ended after the U.S. entered the war. Group Discussion
Student will share their thoughts and opinions on the overall unit thus far. Key concepts will be recorded on the board or on a transparency. None

Groups will have a few minutes to get together before presenting their movie posters and turning in their scripts. Finish with webquest and end of unit. Poster Board, scissors, markers, construction paper, glue, computer access-only if needed.
