Web Quest Title: Highways and Byways, A brief Geographical Tour of Florida

Unit Summary: To understand the growth and
development of Florida's major urban centers and its history
(Unit Plan Overview).
Goals/Objectives: Students will
understand Florida's major urban centers, it's culture, history and the impact
of the interstate system.
Days: 4/5 block schedule, 6/7
regular schedule.
Content: Mapping activity, web quest, City planning exercise , PowerPoint presentation.
Methods: Plotting individual maps
and utilizing the web quest to apply MR. LIP to Florida and researching
historical background.
Web Quest Summary: Florida has a
vast and rich heritage and as yet it has poor coverage in Hillsborough County
curriculum.
Goals/Objectives: Through research,
students will apply the five themes of Geography and answer questions about its
history, understanding the roles and influences that have impacted this state
Days: 1/2
Content: Through role playing, students will look at this
state from different perspectives and surf twenty websites to discover answers
Methods: Students will be able to
surf websites for their own research and in addition be guided to a specific
site to answer set questions.

Conclusion: At the end of this unit, students should have an understanding of the influences and complexities of the statehood of Florida, reasons for growth, type of growth, environmental impacts and the projections for the future. They should also have a complete understanding of the application of the five themes of geography through applications in this area.
