in Social Science Education
This program is a NCATE/NCSS Accredited & State Approved Social Science Education Program and leads to certification in the State of Florida and may be transferred to approximately 30 other states under what is known as the "Reciprocity Agreement," Go To Interstate Agreement.

Summary of Degree
The deadline for summer and fall completed applications is March 15 and October 15 for spring. If your application file is not completed by that date, it will be reviewed in early fall. Students who find themselves in this position may enroll as non-degree seeking students in fall.

MAT - Master of Arts in Teaching
Students Seeking Masters who are not Certified/Licensed but want to be

The MAT is for individuals who want to teach social sciences at the middle or high school level.
The MAT is a NCATE/NCSS Accredited & State approved Social Science Education Program and leads to certification in the State of Florida.

Candidates:
-
have a degree in a social studies discipline (history, geography, political science, philosophy, economics, anthropology, etc.) that is taught in a middle or high school, or comparable coursework acceptable to the program faculty;
-
are not certified although they may hold a temporary certificate;
-
do not have a degree in education or social sciences education;
-
are seeking the fastest route to a degree and certification; and
-
with an additional 18 graduate hours in one field in CAS you are qualified to also teach at the community college level.

Masters of Education in Secondary Education - Social Studies
Students who are seeking a Masters who want to specialize in pedagogy of teaching and social studies. Usually these candidates are certified teachers.

M. Ed in Secondary Education.
This degree does not lead to certification. Most individuals who enter this degree are certified usually to teach social sciences at the middle or high school level.

Candidates:
Coursework can be taken just in COEDU or can be taken in both COEDU and CAS. With 18 hours in one field in CAS, one can become eligible to teach at a community college.

Masters of Arts in Social Studies Education
Certified teachers who are seeking a Masters who want to specialize in a social studies field, like History, Geography, etc.
