Most students take a variety of COEDU courses with most in Social Studies Education at the 5000 and 6000 level.
With 18 hours in one field in CAS, one can become eligible to teach at a community college. However, community colleges tend to hire only Ph.Ds for full time positions in the humanities and social sciences and MA's in sociology or history (as examples) as opposed to an MA in social studies for part time positions. Students interested in the CAS 18 hour option will not likely be able to pursue a history specialization (due to limited enrollment policy in the History Department) or courses in counseling psychology.
