Advising is very limited during the summer months.
1. Prospects
- To apply, follow the directions at the website for your degree after reviewing the admissions criteria. Click on the appropriate sidebar =>=>.
- An appointment in person or by phone is not available during summer, or necessary at anytime. We encourage you to read the directions and criteria for application and apply by the posted deadlines. If an interview is necessary, you will be contacted.
- Email is the most efficient way to request clarification of policies. Please insert "Admissions Inquiry" in the subject line due to the increased volume of SPAM.
- You may enroll as a nondegree seeking student prior to formal admission, see Non-degree Seeking Student for policies and courses.
2. Applicants (in process)
- The deadline for admission to the summer and fall terms for completed applications was March 1 and March 15 respectively.
- Those applications not completed by those dates, will have their applications reviewed in September if completed for the next spring term.
- If your application was incomplete, you were sent an email prior to the deadlines indicating what documents were still needed for a decision.
- You may enroll as a nondegree seeking student prior to formal admission, see Non-degree Seeking Student for policies and courses.
3. Current Students
- Follow your program plan and the policies that were explained to you when you completed your program plan with your advisor.
- As soon as the fall term begins, contact your advisor should you have any advising needs. Dr. Sheffield has taken a position with a new university. We will communicate with you in August as to who your new advisor will be. Have a great summer!
4. Closed Classes
- The social science education courses have enrollment limits that are planned based on the content and assignments in each course and are strictly adhered to. While some programs do, we do not "permit" students into closed classes or maintain a waitlist and students should not come to the first class meeting in hopes on enrolling.
- The only way to enter SSE courses is through the registration and drop/add system. You can check OASIS frequently during the registration and the drop/add period during the first week of classes to register for an open seat should someone drop or be removed due to lack of prerequisites.
- Pursuant to State of Florida regulations, non-degree seeking students enroll last and on a space available basis. Because non-degree seeking students register last, a nondegree seeking student may experience problems registering for social science education courses.
- Teachers on temporary certificates or individuals seeking to meet certification requirements by taking courses from USF and applying directly to the state for certification, who are not admitted to a USF degree education program, register with non-degree seeking students on a first come, first served, space available basis.
- Petitions for exceptions to these closed class policies must be sent by email. Exceptions will be considered only for documented reasons as to the unusual circumstances as to why a student did not register on the appointed time and day (the course would have been open at that time based on the university’s policy that degree seeking masters, than seniors, etc register first) and only if graduation is imminent. Such petitions will be considered just prior to the beginning of classes. As stated previously, nondegree seeking students register only on a space available basis and just prior to the beginning of classes, as per State of Florida policies.
