SSE 6636 Trends and Issues This is a "capstone" seminar for all masters level students and should only be taken in either the last semester prior to graduation or in the semester of graduation. Although this course can be taken while you are enrolled in your internship, it is best to take it the semester before or after because of the demands of both the course and internship. The topics vary each semester and include such issues as multiculturalism, socialization, intelligence, inclusion, school privatization, high stakes testing, gender differences, poverty, crime, race, ecology, values/virtues, cynicism, cultural bias, etc. These kinds of topics are developed through students research, discussion, presentations, and papers. During this course, students take their Comprehensive Exam. For students entering the job market, and while not a required part of the course, it is recommended that they prepare an "Employment Portfolio." Suggestions on how to do so are provided at the website, SSE 4936. You will find at this website a checklist for the kinds of documents that might be included in an employment portfolio, a sample resume, etc. |
