Program Admission Requirements

 

M.Ed. Admissions Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a regionally accredited university
  • Certification in Mathematics (Include a copy of your Florida State Teaching Certificate)
  • Must have and verify at least two years of successful pre-college teaching
  • Submit GRE scores taken within the last 5 years.
  • Meet one of the following criteria
  1. Shall have earned a “B” (3.0 on a 4.0 scale) average or better in all work attempted while registered as an upper division student (usually last two years of coursework) working for a baccalaureate degree.
    OR
  2. Shall have GRE scores of 550 and 450 or higher on the quantitative and verbal sections, respectively.

MA Plan I Admissions Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a regionally accredited university
  • Certification in mathematics education (Include a copy of your Florida State Teaching Certification with your application. Temporary Certificates are not acceptable.)
  • Submit GRE scores taken within the last 5 years.
  • Meet one of the following criteria:
  1. Shall have earned a “B” (3.0 on a 4.0 scale) average or better in all work attempted while registered as an upper division student (usually last two years of coursework) working for a baccalaureate degree
    OR
  2. Shall have GRE scores of 550 and 450 or higher on the quantitative and verbal sections, respectively.

MA Plan III Admissions Requirements:

Note: This plan is very similar to Plan I except for a certification requirement.

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a regionally accredited university
  • Submit GRE scores taken within the last 5 years.
  • Meet one of the following criteria:
  1. Shall have earned a “B” (3.0 on a 4.0 scale) average or better in all work attempted while registered as an upper division student (usually last two years of coursework) working for a baccalaureate degree.
    OR
  2. Shall have GRE scores of 550 and 450 or higher on the quantitative and verbal sections, respectively.


The M.A.T. Master of Arts in Teaching: Middle Grades (5-9) Mathematics Education

This degree is faster than taking a second undergraduate degree and results in higher pay and transferability of your certificate to over 30 other states. This degree can be completed while you continue to teach on a temporary certificate.

 

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a regionally accredited university
  • An earned grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale average or better in all work attempted while registered as an upper division student (usually last two years of coursework) working for baccalaureate degree.
  • Meet one of the following criteria
  1. Have passed the Florida Subject Area Exam Mathematics 5 - 9
    OR
  2. Have completed at least 18 credit hours in mathematics at or above the level of college algebra.
  • Demonstrate mastery of general knowledge including the ability to read, write, and compute by passing the College Level Academic Skills Test (CLAST, if taken and passed prior to July 1, 2002) or by passing the Florida General Knowledge Test (GKT). For this graduate level teacher preparation programs GRE scores of 450 verbal and 550 quantitative or higher, taken within the last 5 years may be accepted in lieu of GK or CLAST, for admission to the program.

Additionally, we may require individuals with limited experiences working with students to observe in a middle grades school environment for 3-4 weeks prior to being fully admitted in the program.

 

The M.A.T. Master of Arts in Teaching: Secondary (6-12) Mathematics Education

 

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a regionally accredited university
  • An earned minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale average or better in all work attempted while registered as an upper division student (usually the last two years of undergraduate coursework)
  • Meet one of the following criteria
  1. Have completed 21 credit hours in mathematics at or above the level of college algebra and a passing score on the Florida Subject Exam Mathematics 6 - 12 (FTCE).
    OR
  2. Have completed at least 30 credit hours in mathematics at or above the level of College Algebra.
  • Demonstrate mastery of general knowledge including the ability to read, write, and compute by passing the College Level Academic Skills Test (CLAST, if taken and passed prior to July 1, 2002) or passing the Florida General Knowledge Test (GKT). For this graduate level teacher preparation program, GRE scores of 450 verbal and 550 quantitative or higher, taken within the last 5 years may be accepted in lieu of GKT or CLAST, for admission to the program.
