Summary of Masters Programs

 

This program is a NCATE Accredited & State Approved Mathematics Education Program and leads to certification in the State of Florida and may be transferred to approximately 30 other states under what is known as the "Interstate Reciprocity Agreement."


Students Seeking a Masters degree who are Certified/Licensed or have professional experience

The M. Ed. is designed for individuals who are certified usually to teach Mathematics at the middle or high school level. This degree is designed for the professional educator who wishes to pursue advanced study. The primary objective is to prepare instructional leaders through courses in curriculum, methods, supervision, learning principles, human interaction, and areas of specialization. This degree can be tailored to match the interest and needs of the student.

 


Students Seeking a Masters Degree Who Are Not Certified/Licensed but Wish to Be.

 

The M.A.T. in Mathematics Education (5-9) is designed for individuals seeking initial certification to teach middle school mathematics (grades 5 – 9) with ESOL Endorsement - while working towards a Master's degree. It is planned for graduates of B.A. Liberal Arts programs who come from a variety of backgrounds (e.g., accounting) who are now interested in teaching mathematics.


 

The M.A.T. in Mathematics Education (6-12) is designed for individuals seeking initial certification to teach High School or Middle School mathematics (grades 6 – 12) with ESOL Endorsement - while working towards a Master's degree. It is planned for graduates of B.A. Liberal Arts Mathematics programs or for graduates of other programs who have completed  at least 30 credit hours of mathematics courses that include 6 hours of calculus, 3 hours of linear or abstract algebra, 3 hours of number theory.
