Doctoral Degree with an Emphasis in Mathematics Education at USF

 

The mathematics education program at the University of South Florida has a long history, with graduates dating back to the 1980s. From 1990 to 2006, 11 students completed a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in mathematics education. Three other students, all mathematics educators at area community colleges, completed a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Studies with a dissertation related to mathematics education. In One field, many paths: U.S. doctoral programs in mathematics education (2001, Providence, RI: American Mathematical Society), Robert Reys and Jeremy Kilpatrick list 126 institutions that have awarded doctorates in mathematics education since 1980. The University of South Florida is listed 30th in terms of the number of students graduating with a doctorate during this time period.
