Master
of Arts Degree in
Foreign
Language / ESOL Education
The USF College of Education offers a Graduate Certificate
as well as five (2) types of Master's degrees in Foreign Language
Education/ESOL:
The completion of an MAT (Master's of Arts in Teaching) in Foreign Language Education at USF will result
in your meeting the minimum certification requirements of the
State of Florida for teaching foreign languages in K-12 public
schools. This certification is, thanks to reciprocity
agreements with other states, valid in approximately 38 U.S.
states.
Completing an MAT in Foreign Language Education will also result
in your obtaining the ESOL endorsement required by the State
of Florida Department of Education.
Some courses, such
as the ESOL endorsement courses, are offered both on-line and
on campus. However, most of the Master's level courses
are offered on the Tampa campus.
The MAT is a fast track (42 credit hours) program designed for
native speakers or people who have majored in the foreign language
for their undergraduate degree. The MA Plan II (Inactive) is a longer
track (63 credit hours) that includes 18 hours of graduate credits
in the foreign language and enables the recipient to teach at
the junior college level.
