Field Experience Guiding Principles

The foundation of the whole teacher preparation experience are the premises and principles guiding field experiences in Secondary Education.  They are critical to the success of every student.

  1. Internship is an earned privilege.  A student is recommended into internship concurrently with the application process based on high quality performance in courses, practices, and other settings such as the early field experience.

  2. Early field experiences of the preprofessional teachers are an essential component of the secondary education programs.

  3. The time frame for completion of a variety of early field experiences and internships may vary by individual according to demonstrated performance of Secondary Education Department recommended accomplished practices.

  1. An education student recommended for internship has demonstrated professional, ethical, and reflective behavior and is committed to the achievement and success of all students.

  2. Cooperating teachers volunteer to supervise field experiences and internships.

  3. A continuous support system, linking university faculty, cooperating teachers, and preprofessional teachers are an integral part of all field experiences.
