Professor Puglisi’s academic work is focused on the field of free enterprise and economic education. As director of the Gus A. Stavros Center for Economic Education and holder of the Stavros Endowed Chair in Free Enterprise and Economic Education, Dr. Puglisi’s efforts are designed to build partnerships between business and education so that K-12 educators possess the knowledge and skills needed to prepare students for the global economy. He is the instructor for courses in creativity & the economy, the global economy and economic decision making. During his tenure in the COEDU at USF, he has provided leadership in obtaining funds to establish three endowments, two of which are in excess of one million dollars, along with additional substantial funds from the corporate community. A significant accomplishment was the capital campaign that resulted in the building of a state-of-the art facility on the USF campus that houses the Stavros Center.

Dr. Puglisi was a social studies teacher at a Tampa high school prior to coming to USF in 1969. From 1969-1980, he taught both the elementary and secondary social science education methods courses both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In 1980, he assumed the directorship of the Center for Economic Education (now the Gus A. Stavros Center for Free Enterprise and Economic Education). During his tenure in the College of Education at USF, he as served in several leadership positions, including Acting Director, National Resource Center for Middle Level Education; Assistant Director, Educational Policies Center; and Assistant Dean and Director of the Stavros Center. He is the recipient of numerous awards including the coveted national award, the Freedoms Foundation Leavey Award in Private Enterprise Education and the Outstanding Citizen Award from the Florida Council for the Social Studies.
