Background
Dr. Applegate received her doctorate in Teacher Education from The Ohio State University. Her Master's degree in Guidance Counseling and her Bachelor's in English Education were also earned at The Ohio State University. She has held the position of Dean at the College of Education, University of South Florida, the College of Human Resources and Education at West Virginia Univeristy and was Associate Dean at the College of Education at Kent State University in Ohio.
Teaching
English Education, Curriculum Education, Teacher Education and Research are just some of the topics that Dr. Applegate has taught. She has also chaired or been a member of several dissertation committees and taught field experience to preservice teachers.
Research and Publications
Her research and publications focus on a variety of educational topics. Administration, teacher education, field experiences, alternative teacher certification, language arts, secondary education students and reflective teaching techniques are subjects of her research.
Service
Dr. Applegate has served in a variety of positions at the post-secondary and secondary levels. She has served on the following committees:
AERA, National Council of Teachers of English, Association of Teacher Educators, Holmes Group, National Staff Development Council Member, Phi Delta Kappan, West Virginia Center for Professional Development, West Virginia Education Fund, Ohio Teacher Education and Certification Advisory Commission, Ohio Association of Teacher Educators. She has also been an invited reviewer for several journals including Journal of Teacher Education, Educational Researcher, National Institute of Education, American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education-ERIC Clearinghouse, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Journal of Curriculum and Supervision and Educational Leadership.
