Sara Barnard Flory is an Assistant Professor of Secondary Physical Education. She received her doctorate from Wayne State University, where she completed her studies in Teaching in Secondary Education with an emphasis on physical education and health. Sara received her Bachelors of Science degree in Movement Science and Athletic Training from the University of Michigan in 2000 and a Masters degree from Wayne State in 2005.
During her graduate studies, Sara worked as a graduate research assistant for two large-scale grant programs, the Detroit Healthy Youth Initiative, and Generation With Promise. Both of these programs focused on improving health and physical education programs in urban public schools.
Her research interests have to do with the role of culture in physical education and physical activity. Specifically, Sara is interested in evaluating and developing culturally competent curriculum models, school-based health initiatives, and preparing teachers for culturally diverse school settings.
Sara’s teaching responsibilities include secondary instructional design and content courses, internship experiences, as well as teaching in the masters program in physical education.
