Rebecca West Burns, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Childhood Education and Literacy Studies. She received her doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Supervision from The Pennsylvania State University. She also holds a Masters in Education in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Science Education and a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education also from The Pennsylvania State University.

Her research agenda lies at the intersection of supervision, professional development schools (PDS), and teacher education. She is interested specifically in the boundary-spanning roles and the individuals, known as hybrid educators, who perform the functions in those roles in PDS contexts. She also has an affinity for considering and implementing technology in teaching and learning in meaningful ways.

As an emerging scholar in supervision and professional development schools, she has received the 2012 AERA PDS SIG Dissertation Award, the 2011 Phi Delta Kappa Andrew V. Kozak Fellowship Award, and the 2010 Arthur Blumberg Scholar Award for Supervision.
